Trailcon Leasing breaks ground in Calgary, marking second new Alberta facility

BRAMPTON, Ontario, June 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Trailcon Leasing Inc. began construction on its second facility in as many months when it broke ground on June 19 in Calgary.

At the ground-breaking ceremony (from l to r): Hans te Stroete (VP & General Manager, Scott Builders); Dave Reed (Property Manager, Trailcon Leasing Inc.); Mike Krell (VP Sales & Marketing, Trailcon Leasing Inc.); Al Boughton (President, Trailcon Leasing Inc.); Nick Reid (Calgary Branch Manager, Trailcon Leasing Inc.); Shane Keating (Calgary Ward 12 Councillor)

The state-of-the-art 20,000-square-foot building will occupy six acres at 7269 – 106 Avenue SE, with the expected completion date being Q2 2019.

“After Trailcon’s acquisition of Hubs Trailer Service in 2014, we rapidly outgrew our existing facility in Calgary,” explains President Al Boughton. “The new facility will not only enable us to continue to meet – and exceed – the expectations of our growing client base, but it will also solidify our position as a premier supplier of trailer leasing and servicing, both on the West Coast of Canada and nationally.” Trailcon expanded to British Columbia in 2016 following its acquisition of Stewart Trailers in Surrey.

“The imminent expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline will deliver a major boost to the Western economy,” says Mike Krell, Trailcon’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Given the pace of economic development, and Trailcon’s acquisition of some major new customers, including Canadian Tire, we must ensure that we have the necessary infrastructure and staff in place to provide our clients with the service level on which Trailcon has built its 26-year reputation.”

Like its sister facility in Edmonton, already under construction, the Calgary facility will feature large, fenced-in yards with truck gates to accommodate about 120 trailers. Other security features include intrusion alarms, door access control, and closed-circuit television. Calgary branch manager Nick Reid will head up the operation, supported by eight shop mechanics, three mobile mechanics, a service manager, operations coordinator, and two administrators.

Calgary Ward 12 Councillor Shane Keating, and David Purcell-Chung, Leader, Development & Planning Advisory Services at The City of Calgary were among the dignitaries attending the ground-breaking ceremony.
